When I was working, I packed Jacob's lunch the night before so it would be ready to go in the morning. I put a lot of thought into his lunches to make sure he was getting healthy food without getting bored of the same old foods every day; but when I packed lunch for my husband and myself, I just threw whatever I could find in a box. After two or three days of eating the same stuff for lunch, I would get bored, "forget" that I brought my lunch that day, and go out for lunch. Since I've stopped working during the day, I've started to put a little more thought into my husband's lunches (you can see them here), but most of the time I still eat whatever is convenient in the house...90% of the time it's a bowl of cereal. Nothing special.
Most (well...pretty much all) of the bento blogs I follow are focused on cute kid's lunches. There are a few that occasionally feature their husband/significant other's lunch; but for the most part, the kids get the good stuff.
Well, moms, dads, grandparents, caretakers, and overall bento enthusiasts...it's time for that to change. At least once a week, make yourself a bento lunch. Fill it with healthy, colorful foods, fun shapes, and cute picks. Especially if you work. How great would it be...after a stressful morning at work, you sit down and open your lunchbox, and there so much HAPPY looking back at you! You'll instantly be in a better mood for the afternoon, and feel better by eating healthy foods instead of fast food junk. If you don't work and feel weird packing lunch for yourself at home, make one for your spouse. They'll love the lunchtime pick-me-up, and see how much love you put into it. It will make their day!! Or better yet...bentos for the whole family!!
**While I do encourage cute, decorated lunches for adults--because putting thought and a little extra time into a lunch for yourself or a loved one makes it more fun & makes them feel loved--it is not required. Show me (and everyone else) what you eat for lunch, so the rest of us can get ideas when we're in a rut...or tired of cereal.

Great lunches. I am partial to the salad :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I know I tend to graze for myself...not always the best choices, either. Or, I just don't eat at all. :(
ReplyDeleteAwwww, love the little 'I love you' pick! I've posted the only lunch I could find that I made for myself - I guess it's time to starting thinking about my own lunches for a change! Thanks for the chance to link up! :-)
